Uber Self-Driving Cars are Returning to California

Uber will resume its self-driving tests after it gets permission from California Department of Motor Vehicles.

Department of Motor Vehicles has listed Uber among other 20 companies that can test self-driving cars. Other significant companies are Baidu, Tesla, and Waymo.

Tests were stopped in December after Uber refused to take a permit from authorities. Uber had argued that rules are applicable to the cars that are without anyone monitoring or controlling them. Uber claimed of its cars having a person inside to counter any situation that requires human intervention like bad weather. Uber moved its cars from California to Arizona where rules are not strict for self-driving cars.

Now after getting the approval, Uber is bringing its cars back into California, its home state.

California department of Motors vehicles confirmed that Uber was permitted to test two self-driving cars on public roads.

Is it the start of a new era? Will we see self-driving cars running on the roads soon?
