Toyota To Sell Traffic Data Service

Using traffic information of real time from over 700,000 vehicles in Japan, Toyota the biggest automaker is offering to local government and business the auxiliary “Big Data” service. This data will be helpful for the Japanese government to manage traffic and also will help them to use this data in the time of emergency and disasters.

The service will be starting from June 3 at the price of 200,000 Yen/month around 2,000 US Dollars, said Toyota Motor Corp. The managing officer of Toyota Shigeki Tomoyama said that similar service will be available in overseas too but it is not yet decided.

The giant carmaker said that we have already started to collect the data from the vehicles on road and this data has helped us to understand what the customer behavior is. The system will be embedded to the car’s telematics and Toyota is also looking to incorporate the “Smarphones” and other mobile devices that will allow drivers to share road conditions and observations.

This Toyota’s big data service will enable the carmaker to gain valuable insights into the behavior of customers and also it will help to conduct data research on its vehicles.
