The government of Nigeria has approached Japanese government to help in recycling the huge number of used vehicles, especially cars, dumped across the country. Nigeria is a home to the largest population on the African continent (160 million) and 95% of used cars exist their. .A major point of discussion was the development of Automobile Supplier Parks in Nigeria. This project forms part of the Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan that is intended to boost employment, skills acquisition and wealth in the nation's automotive sector. In the technical meeting involving officials from Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA),Nigeria's permanent secretary Ambassador Abdulkadir Musa stated 'For each new car in Nigeria, we have 20 used cars. 'It is a big market to recycle vehicles in this country, which may serve as an avenue for employment and skills acquisition as well as an opportunity for manufacturers to replace used cars with new ones. To achieve better results and higher growth he 'welcomes' Japan invention. As the ministry was ready to work with Japan to provide 'necessary support and information'.

 

Akihiro Shimomura's team will factor in the general outline of Nigeria's automotive industry, policy, strategy, standards, development of popular cars, supplier parks and clusters in three areas, as well as laws and regulations who is supervising the survey. JICA will also conduct a survey to gather information of the automotive sector in Nigeria.
