Japan’s currency strengthened versus most of its 16 major counterparts as the diagnosis became the first of the disease to be made in the most populous U.S. city. Treasuries advanced, while stock futures on the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index of declined. The pound halted a three-day drop versus the dollar after a report showed the U.K.’s pace of economic growth was in line with analyst forecasts in the third quarter.
