Top car executives—including Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa and Mercedes-Benz chief Ola Källenius—are publicly challenging the EU’s 2035 fossil-fuel vehicle ban, urging regulators to rethink the timeline. In interviews with the Financial Times, they argue that a more flexible approach would allow automakers room to invest and preserve consumer choice.  
Filosa pledged to significantly increase investment in Europe if the EU eases the ban. The executives also warned of industrial decline if rigid EV-only rules go ahead, especially in light of Europe’s chip and rare-earth supply vulnerabilities.
