Mercedes-Benz announced plans to end sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) across Europe by 2028. The decision comes as stricter EU emissions standards and growing EV adoption push automakers toward fully electric lineups. The company said the PHEV phase-out will free investment capacity to scale solid-state battery EVs.
While PHEVs remain popular in some markets, particularly for corporate fleets, Mercedes says it expects charging infrastructure and customer readiness to make full EVs the default by the end of the decade. The brand will continue offering PHEVs in select non-European markets where EV infrastructure lags.
