General Motors announced it will reopen a previously shuttered plant in Ohio to serve as a dedicated battery module assembly facility for its EV lineup, starting mid-2026. The site will support the Ultium battery architecture and reduce logistics costs from current battery plant imports.

GM estimates this will create 1,200 new jobs and accelerate local content for its U.S. EV production goals. The company says it will also expand supplier investment zones nearby to stimulate regional battery supply chain growth.
