Nissan announced it will significantly increase EV production at its Smyrna, Tennessee plant in response to growing trade tensions and proposed tariffs on Chinese-made components. The Japanese automaker plans to invest $1.4 billion to localize battery and motor supply chains and expand output of the upcoming Leaf successor, expected to debut in 2026. Executives say the move will help Nissan maintain EV competitiveness in North America.
