Honda Motor Co. announced today that it will relocate production of its popular Civic hybrid from Japan to the United States in an effort to mitigate the impact of increasing tariffs on imported vehicles.

The move comes as trade tensions between the U.S. and key Asian markets continue to escalate, with automotive imports facing higher levies. By shifting production stateside, Honda aims to remain competitive in pricing and streamline supply chains for its North American market.

"This strategic shift allows us to better serve our U.S. customers while responding to the evolving trade environment," said a Honda spokesperson. The company did not specify which American facility would take on the hybrid production, but sources suggest Honda’s Greensburg, Indiana plant is a likely candidate.

Honda’s decision follows similar moves by other automakers reassessing global production strategies due to geopolitical uncertainties and evolving emissions regulations.

The Civic hybrid, which has seen renewed consumer interest amid rising fuel prices, is expected to begin U.S. production by early 2026.
