GM Stops Bolt EVs Production Until Oct 15 Due to Battery Fire

American automaker General Motors will not resume production of the Chevy Bolt EV until at least October 15, until repairs are completed to mitigate the risk of a battery fire on the Chevy Bolt. In July, GM recalled nearly 69,000 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles worldwide due to fire hazards following reports of two battery fires. By the end of August, the recall was extended to 141,000 vehicles. GM has been addressing battery issues in the Bolt EV since last year. The 2017-2019 Bolt EV was first withdrawn in November 2020 due to a possible fire in the vehicle's high-voltage battery. GM says it will replace defective battery modules as needed, but depending on how many battery modules need to be replaced in the Bolt model, the cost could be as high as $ 1 billion.
