GM Extends Production Shutdown Due to Battery Recall Until Sep 24

US automaker General Motors has extended the shutdown of its Chevy Bolt EV after the automaker recalled all vehicles due to the risk of a battery fire. GM hopes to resume production of the all-electric Bolt EV soon at its Orion, Michigan assembly plant, but the automaker said it is now facing a "battery shortage" and will halt production of the Bolt for another two weeks until September 24. GM said it will replace faulty battery modules as needed, which depending on the number of battery modules to be replaced, could be as high as $1 billion. The Bolt EV battery is guaranteed by GM for 8 years or 100,000 miles.
