Biden Government Asks Vehicle Manufacturer to Voluntarily Back Pledge of New EV Car Sales by 2030

The White House wants electric vehicles to account for at least 40% of all new car sales in the United States by 2030 and has asked automakers to voluntarily back their pledge to help them achieve that goal. The new emission guidelines are expected to be similar to California's 2019 agreement with certain automakers that aims to improve fuel consumption by 3.7% per year. Many global automakers have already pledged to sell only electric vehicles by 2030, including Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Audi, and Volkswagen. US automaker General Motors is targeting 2035 for its phase-out of gasoline vehicles. While GM's domestic rival, Ford Motor Co, plans to have 40% of its model lineup fully electric by 2030.
