Japan mandates cars to be 30% more fuel efficient by 2030

Japan will require automakers to increase fleet wide fuel efficiency more than 30% by fiscal 2030. The target has been designed to help the country catch up with the shifts towards zero-emissions vehicles in Europe and China.

The new standard calls for average fuel economy of 25.4km per liter of gasoline across total vehicle sales for a given company. It is 32% up than the performance of the fiscal 2016. Japan already endorses a 24% improvement by fiscal 2020 from 11 years prior. The relevant rules will be revised by Mach 2020.

The new regulations were formulated by Japan’s Transport and in industry ministries.
