Car Rentals in UAE can’t keep Your Passport or ID as Guarantee

Car rental companies in UAE are not allowed to take a customer’s passport or Emirates ID as a guarantee to rent cars.

The license of such car companies will be permanently canceled for this illegal practice, the director of Federal Traffic Council announced on Sharjah TV.

While answering to a question, the director of the council said that relevant UAE laws do not authorize the companies to demand passport or Emirates ID of the customer as a guarantee to rent a car.

The standard contract between the customer and the company does not have such an arrangement.
