Don't Let These 4 Car Problems Ruin Your Trip

Hitting the road for a trip is fun, but is your vehicle up for the challenge? Here are four problems that could ruin your road trip and how to avoid them. Everyone may need to get away, but unfortunately not everyone can afford to fly. However, who really needs to fly when there are so many fun things to do on a road trip? Make sure your car is ready for the road by eliminating these most common problems.

1. Tire Problems:

It's easy to take your car to an auto repair shop to have it inspected before setting off on a big trip, but you can also go over the more important points on your own.

  • It is really not difficult to check the tire pressure and fluid levels in your vehicle yourself.
  • A thread gauge will let you know if your car's tires are ready for the trip.
  • It is also important to make sure that the air filter is clean and that all lights are working before travel.

2. Missing Fluids:

Checking fluid levels in a vehicle is a must, but having a lot of oil doesn't necessarily mean all is well.

  • Never forget to check the almost hidden sticker that tells you when the next oil change is due.
  • While checking the fluids, check the wipers. Obstructed visibility must be avoided at all costs during torrential rains on a long and open route.

3. Defective Brakes or Shock Absorbers:

There are a lot of things you can do on your own to prepare your vehicle for a long trip, but there are some things that probably need to be followed by a professional.

  • If the brakes or shocks start to fail, a road trip is not the best time to test their endurance.
  • If a vehicle has serious problems or even concerns that can quickly become serious, it is best to have it serviced by a professional before you hit the road.

4. Lack of a Survival Kit:

No one knows what hitting the road will bring and it's always best to be prepared, so always bring a survival kit.

  • At a minimum, this kit should have extra water, food, a flashlight, extra batteries, and a warm blanket.
  • Certain weather conditions could make other items essential.
  • If getting stuck in the snow is a possibility, bring a small shovel and something that can give the tires extra traction, like sand or kitty litter.

Road trips are meant to be fun adventures, but if one is not prepared enough, a trip for fun can quickly turn into a nightmare. Follow these tips and don't let these four problems ruin your vacation.
