Traveling by Car with Children, Safety Above All

The safety on the road and with children is an issue that should worry us all because the lack of awareness of many parents threatens daily to the smallest. One in four minors who died (2008 data) in traffic accidents did not wear a seat belt.

A tragedy that can be avoided with something as simple as the right belts and devices, the use of the former also being essential when it comes to adults. Because there are still more children who would not have been orphaned and marked for the rest of their lives if their parents had used the safety belt themselves, a basic and fundamental element of road safety that halves the risk of death in accident case.

We want to give you some basic rules so that the trip with children is first and foremost safe:

1. Never carry the baby in your arms, as kinetic energy has been shown to transform a child in the event of an accident (for example, 25 kilos into a mass of one ton)

2. Choose the restraint system or device based on the weight and size of the child, not by age since there have been cases of children with more than normal weight where restraint systems for their age are not effective.

3. Install the device correctly in the vehicle, following the instructions that accompany it, always place the child with the belts or other safety elements adjusted and fastened, do not leave any anchorage loose as before any braking this can be harmful.

4. For child car seats , the five-point harness is preferable to the four-point harness.

5. Children under the age of four should, or at least should, use “back-to-front” devices, that is, in the opposite direction to driving.

6. If the car has a passenger airbag , and the seat is facing away from it, always place the child in the rear seat or disconnect the airbag.

7. Do not let the child stand between the seats, or touch buttons or handles of windows or doors that must also be secured.

8. Lead by example, always wearing a seat belt and not infringing Traffic regulations so as not to lose moral authority in front of the child and that

9. Buying an approved device, reading the instructions and using it correctly should be the first rule, but we wanted to leave it until the end so that we do not forget this vital point.
